Books go to Afghanistan The International Book Project shipped 18,768 new books, generously donated by Zaner Bloser/Highlight's for Children, to Kabul, Afghanistan on March 7, 2005. These books will be distributed by our partnering organization, SOZO International, to schools that educate indigenous Afghani people. Books will be sent to the Istalef district, one hour north of Kabul, which is home to some 35,000 Afghan people. Almost all of the population were displaced from Istalef during war with the Taliban who burned homes, schools, roads, and crops in late 1999. Books distributed to this region will educate the youngest children of Afghanistan. This shipment of books would not have been possible without the sponsorship of the Gregg Challenge grant, and all of the loyal IBP donors who supported this project with their financial contributions. A big thank you goes to Carol Taylor of Brother's Brother, who worked tirelessly to leverage the book donation on behalf of International Book Project and the people of Afghanistan. The International Book Project would like to thank everyone who made this shipment a reality. Please remember that you are a part of a social change that is making the world a better place, one book at a time. Back to news |
