900 million children and adults cannot read or write. Many of these people live in the developing world where they have little access to books and other educational resources. You can make a difference by joining the International Book Project, a not-for-profit book distribution organization that has distributed over 5 million books to needy communities around the globe. These volumes stock the shelves of village libraries, primary and secondary school classrooms, community centers, churches, and universities. They open doors to intellectual and spiritual growth as well as increased educational and economic opportunity.

Last week, the shipment of books you sent arrived. (The books) were placed in the community library where they were fawned over by many kids from the neighborhood. It was wonderful to look around and see all the kids excited about reading thanks to the arrival of all these new books for them! Almost all of them asked where the books had come from. When I explained, they were puzzled and impressed that people they had never met from a country far away would send books specifically to them, “Tia,” six year-old Francisca asked, “do we have to send them back?”

Growing up in a poor urban neighborhood in Chile, Francisca and her friends have little access to basic educational resources. The opportunity to read a book is rare and there is little hope for educational and economic advancement.

For over forty years, the International Book Project has worked to make the dream of education a reality for children and adults like Francisca by distributing over 5 million books to needy communities across the globe. Open the door of opportunity for Francisca and others by joining the International Book Project today. Your financial contribution will support book shipments to libraries, primary and secondary school classrooms, community centers, churches, and universities.
