Dr. Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam will speak on how education can be used as a tool for empowering those in developing countries. Dr. Kalam was the eleventh President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007.  He was elected during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance coalition government, under prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  During his term as President, he was popularly known as the "People's President". Before his term as India's president, he worked as an aeronautical engineer with DRDO and ISRO. The International Book Project is an international nonprofit whose mission is to promote education and literacy while broadening Americans' understanding of their neighbors by sending quality used books overseas. Each year IBP sends more than 150,000 books to schools, libraries, churches, nonprofits, and Peace Corps volunteers in over 40 developing countries.

IBP is a registered 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by IRS tax law.
